On Shabbat Parshat Ki Tissa, March 6, at Seudah Shlishit, Debbie Weissman will give a shiur in memory of her mother on the occasion of her mother's 14th Yahrtzeit. Topic: "Moshe as a role model for leadership.”

Pinchas Leiser’s shiur on the third chapter of Ta’anit will take place on Tuesday at 7 PM. New participants are welcome.

On Monday evening March 8^th, the 23^rd of Adar, it will be two years since our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague Gerald Cromer z”l was taken from us. We will gather at Kehillat Yedidyah at 7:30 PM for an evening in his memory.

This is a gathering of those for whom Gerald's absence is so present. We invite you to bring a poem, a song, a memory, a photo, a story, or tell about what you miss about him, if you like, or just to come.

We will meet on Tuesday, March 9th, at 4:30 PM, at the parking lot of the Har Menuchot cemetery for mincha and walk to his grave together.

The monthly shiur (in Hebrew) about S.Y. Agnon led by Moshe Babad will meet next Saturday night 13.3.2010 at 8 PM at Yedidya.

The annual Mishloach Manot fundraising project is over and we are happy to report that the community raised over 33,000 shekels.

Thanks to the shoppers (Mindy and Anna); to the bakers (Warren, Penina, Lori, Lisa, Melissa and Alana); to Nadia, Eudice, Elise, Noomi and Penina for delivering the soldiers' packages; to Dov for administrative assistance and to Gaby for speedy processing of all the contributions.

סיוע להאיטי – כידוע לכם, לפני כחודש אירע אחד מאסונות הטבע הקשים של תקופתנו. במדינת האיטי נספו מעל 200,000 בני אדם ברעידת אדמה, אסון גדול יותר בהיקפו אף מהטלת הפצצות האטום על הירושימה ונגסקי יחדיו.

במוצ"ש לפני שבוע התקיימה בקהילת ידידיה הרצאה על ידי פרופ' אלי שוורץ על חוויותיו משליחות בהאיטי במסגרת קואליצית "נתן", המורכבת מארגונים רבים למען סיוע הומניטרי בין-לאומי. בהרצאה סיפר אלי שוורץ על הסיוע הרפואי הניתן וממשיך להינתן שם, על טיפול פוסט-טראומה, על פתיחת בתי ספר שם ועל עזרה ליתומים.

עד כה יצאו שלוש משלחות זו אחר זו להאיטי מטעם ארגון זה המסייעים להפעלת 2 מחנות פליטים, בבירה פורטופראנס. בכוונת הארגון להמשיך ולסייע למחנות אלה ולמחנות נוספים. משלחת מתנדבים נוספת מוכנה ליציאה בעוד כשבועיים אך זקוקים בדחיפות לסיוע כספי כדי להוציא אותם. עלות הוצאת משלחת כזו כ-15,000 דולר.

Aid to Haiti – Over a month ago, Haiti was hit by one of the worst natural disasters in memory. 200,000 people were killed, more than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. On February 20, Prof. Eli Schwartz gave a lecture at Yedidya about his experiences on a medical mission to Haiti. This mission was organized by Natan, a coalition of organizations that extend international humanitarian disaster relief. Prof. Schwarz shared his story on how the Natan team supplied medical help, worked on relieving of post-trauma, on the re-opening of a school and the efforts to help orphans.

To date, three Natan teams have gone to Haiti, where they work in two refugee camps in Port-au-Prince. The organization wants to continue helping these and other refugee camps. Additional teams of volunteers are ready to leave in the next two weeks, but to be able to do this, they urgently need financial support. The cost of sending a team is $15,000.

You can help by sending your check, earmarked for aid to Haiti, to Kehillat Yedidya’s Kupat Tzedaka.

The Greater Baka Community Council invites you to a tour of the Hula Swamp and the southern Golan on Tuesday March 9. The program includes:

Driving through the Jordan Valley, buy your own breakfast at Mifgash HaBika, driving along the east side of the Kineret, ascending to the southern Golan, the Peace Lookout, Eagle Falls and the surrounding area, kosher meat lunch at a kibbutz, and the Hula Swamp. Estimated return to Jerusalem at 18:30.

בערך בשעה 22:00 הערב תוכלו לצפות בשרשרת של כוכבים בהירים בקו ישר ממזרח למערב. באופק המזרחי – הירח (ולידו ספיקה). מעל הראש: מאדים האדום. המרחק בין הירח לבין מאדים מחולק לשלשה חלקים שווים על ידי רגולוס (במזל אריה) ושבתאי. בין מאדים לבין האופק המערבי זוהר אלדברן, העין של השור.

At about 10 PM tonight you can see a line of bright objects across the sky. Directly overhead is Mars. On the eastern horizon is the moon. Splitting the distance between the moon and Mars into three equal parts are Regulus (the brightest star in Leo) and Saturn. West of Mars is Aldebaran, the eye of Taurus.
